Tax Manager

Job Description

You have put your time in learning tax forms, The Internal Revenue Code and Regulations, and have spent five to seven years in a CPA firm doing progressively more difficult tax compliance work. Now it’s time to take your game to the next level! The Tax Manager position at HighPoint CPAs is all about training and overseeing the work of others as well as working closely with the Tax Director in making the service line profitable.

Instead of constantly being told what to do, you now get to help others grow from your valuable knowledge and continue to build your skill set in the process! The Tax Manager position works directly with the leadership team in the firm to organize and implement key initiatives such as training and technology integrations. This position is awarded a lot of autonomy and responsibility for working with clients, staff and the firms Tax Director. The overall performance goal for the Tax Manager is to aid in producing high quality, timely client deliverables and to demonstrate that you can use your knowledge to add value to client relationships through intermediate to advanced tax planning engagements. All this while working alongside an awesome team of supportive colleagues!

Essential Skills and Attributes:

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills

  • Self-Starter, trouble shooter, naturally curious and life long learner

  • Analytical, creative, and thoughtful approach to solving interesting challenges for clients and firm

  • Understanding of federal taxonomy and how to conduct intermediate to advanced tax research

  • Intermediate understanding of partnership and corporate tax rules and regulations

  • Some prior exposure to trust and estate taxation

  • CPA license and/or IRS Enrolled Agent designation

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Perform intermediate to advanced tax compliance and planning engagements

  • Oversee work of junior and entry level staff

  • Training and development guru. Its critical that you know how to share your knowledge to bring up your team members!

  • Support Tax Director by working alongside leadership team to implement strategy of offering a unique service to clients wanting their trusted advisors to deliver.

  • Learn tax planning and compliance applications and lead effort to make sure team members are not left in the dust.
